Miami Independence Movement claims to struggle for the independence of
Miami-Dade county from both Florida and USA, stating that the area suffers from
a "federal dictatorship" imposed by the U.S. government; although nothing is
said about the state of Florida, it is obviously implicated that its government
is at least the accomplice of the "dictatorship" . On their webpage (visible
only in Microsoft Internet Explorer - Firefox displays only the page source):
http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/Mim/Miami_Independence_Movement above the
exposure of their goals and motivations, the flag of the movement and/or
proposed Republic of Miami is shown, which is clearly derived from the Stars and
Bars, first national flag of the Confederate States of America, but with seven
white stars on a red canton and blue-white-blue bars; the stars are pointing
away from the center of the circle they are arranged in. No explanation of the
design is given; the first idea to suggest itself is that they just took a
well-known secessionist flag, which was originally used in the area as well, and
modified it. Unfortunately, the meagre content of the site has remained
unchanged since early 2009, when I first reached it, so it is unclear whether
the movement still exists, or has it ever existed outside the Web, not to
mention the lack of any detailed information about it.
